Counting the Beat: Biography

 Hey Readers!

Last week in counting the beat we learnt about famous singers. We firstly learnt about names of singers and what type of music they do. The teacher put up some images of ten famous singers, then we had to try name them. Next Mr Mitchell told us our task, it was to make a biography about a famous singer or band. We had to answer the questions from the site and include it in our biography. I did my Biography on a google slide and included some images. What is a biography? A biography is a way introducing someone by writing it. The band I choose to do mine about was Bts, they are a  male k-pop group who dance and sing. My favourite part about this task was picking a video to include in this blog post. A question: Who is your favourite singer or band?

Here is a video of Bts singing:

Treaty of Waitangi

 Greetings Readers!

For the past three weeks in Hurumanu 1 we have been learning about how the treaty got made and signed. We firstly learnt about why the treaty was wanted, it was wanted because there were no rules back then and they were having lots of wars over who owns the land. Next we learnt about the chiefs and other people involved in the treaty and how it was written. We also learnt about the day it was signed by Māori and the British which was on the sixth of February 1840.

For our task we had to make a DLO ( digital, learning, object) answering some questions which were on the site, I firstly wanted to do a Biteable but then I forgot to answer all the questions. Instead I did the DLO in a google slide which was a simpler way for me. Next I  answered half of the questions on a google drawing, then transferred them onto a google slide as well as answering the rest of the questions. Two ways I got answers to the questions were: researching and going back on the site and reading it again.

The question that was challenging for me was: what were the effects on Mōari rights? I found it challenging because I couldn't really find a answer to it, I solved that problem by thinking of one. After I finished answering all of the questions I tried including one image in each slide to make it more interesting. The easiest part of this task was finding images to match the questions. What information do you know about the Treaty of Waitangi?

Here is my DLO:

Writing to My Hero

Kia Ora Readers!

At the start of this term in hurumanu 1 we have been learning about heroes. We learn't who heroes are and how we can become a hero. One thing that I learnt about during hurumanu 1 was that you don't need a cape to be a hero. Any ways... for our task we had to write a pretend email on a google doc to the hero we wrote a story about.  We had to make sure we included three questions which would be answered in more than one sentence.

As well as that we needed to included why they became your hero and good ways of explaining. Before I begun writing the pretend email I thought about how I would begin my email  to Mr Beast, (one of my heroes) and how I would explain why he is my hero. Once I finished doing that I started writing the start of the email it was a little bit tricky at first but once I  got more ideas it was easier.

Writing the email to my hero took me about three days to complete because I kept changing the wording and  fixing the bad punctuation. Have you ever written a pretend email to someone you look up to?

Invention Poster

 Kia Ora Readers!

This week in Hurumanu 3 we have been making posters about a invention we learnt about in the past term. First we got a piece of paper then we choose the topic we wanted our poster to be about. I choose electric fences because I have done most of my tasks on it and I learnt a lot about them. The Inventions I had learnt about from the past lesson are: Spring free trampoline, Electric fence and pavlova. I researched questions including the 5 w's and the h and made sure my poster had some images. A question: have you ever seen a electric fence?

Here is my poster:

Less Common Instruments (Counting The Beat)

 Kia Ora Readers!

This week in Counting the Beat we have been learning about less common instruments that are very rare to find. Firstly we watched some videos of the incredibly weird instruments, the one that I found was the most interesting was this one that used marbles to make music it was very big and made out of wood here is the video: Marble Machine

After we watched all of the videos Mr Mitchell told the class our task, which was to make our own instrument using other instruments of even making your own. We had to draw it on a piece of paper and then name the instrument we drew.

Since today my school had a day off I choose to draw out what I wanted my instrument to be, I firstly looked at some pictures of instruments to use and then I choose two instruments which were the piano and a part of the drums. I looked at some drawings of the piano then I started sketching out the piano then I started sketching out the drum part. I made sure that everything was how wanted it to be then I coloured the piano and drum kit. After that I thought of a name, I made sure  the words drum and piano were included into the name I thought of the name Dripano which was a very interesting name. I added it to my piece of paper and then started this blog post.

How does my instrument work?

- It works by pressing a switch and playing any note or song on the piano which hits the drum and makes  banging noises. You can also use the piano by its self which works perfectly fine. There is also another way where you can play the drums and piano together, you  simply have to use a  separate part of the piano keys to play both instruments which is easily found when you press the switch twice.

What family is it in?

-Percussion

What is it made out of?

-The Dripano is made out of wood for the piano outside part which is painted black, the keys are made out of reused plastic, the drums are made out of metal and strong plastic.

What sound does it make?

- My instrument makes sounds that can be used as a beat. Deep calming piano notes which help for relaxing or studying and crashing sounds for the drum kit.

What type of music would it be used for?

-Heavy metal,

-Rock,

- and sad music.

Acting in Drama

Hey Readers!

This week in drama we have been acting out our performance in front of our little drama group. We firstly thought about what we would be doing during our performance and how we would do it. My group which was Amanda, Hollie, Venice and I, choose to act out us watching a movie and our little sister spills some popcorn. Next we started practising our little act, at first we were a little bit nervous but at one point we felt more comfortable and memorised what we were doing.

The part I was doing was walking into a room then trying to steal remote to change the channel, then my sister steals it back from me changing it back to the movie, Hollie got the popcorn, Amanda was a cranky little sister and threw the popcorn, Venice was the Mum making the pop corn for us kids and gets mad at us. I enjoyed doing that performance I learnt how to do a small role that makes the performance even more interesting. We also had to pick our music my group choose run rabbit to go with our act well we were on stage acting out the performance. Have you ever acted out a character in a drama performance?

Here is our performance:

Believer STOMP project (Counting The Beat)

Greetings Readers!

This week in Counting the beat we have been learning about percussion music and what it is. Percussion music is beats used to make music and hitting objects with any object. We learnt about the different the different types of percussion music such as body percussion which is when you use your body to make sounds and beats. We also got to watch some videos of people doing body percussion to songs. The one that was mostly interesting was this guy making sounds with his armpit here is the video: Ethiopian armpit music .Today we got into groups of three and tried bringing some items from home to make music, I brought a pot, pan chop sticks and a wooden spoon to create music.

The people in my group are Venice, Hollie, Amanda and me we firstly wanted to pick the song Havana but then we changed it to believer cause we liked the beat better.  I used a pot and chopsticks, Venice used a counting frame and a wooden spoon, Hollie and Amanda used a long stick thingy ( I don't know what it's called) and their feet to make beats. Have you ever made a beat before?

Here is our beat:

Kiwi Inventors ( Hurumanu 3)

 Kia Ora Readers!

For the last few weeks in hurumanu 3 we have been learning about kiwi inventors and what New Zealand has created. It was very interesting to see what New Zealand has created throughout the years. I first choose my three things I wanted to read and do some activities on I choose electric fence,   spring free trampoline ( which I already blogged) and  Pavlova. The first thing I focused on was the electric fence I read the story then I created a powtoon for the activity. Then I did the Pavlova activity at home so I can get more ideas and do it for longer. I choose to blog about my powtoon  because I think I did better on it and put more effort on it. Have you made a powtoon before?

Here are three facts about the electric fence:

- The electric fence was made because a horse had an itchy back and rubbed their back against a car,

- Its portable and can move around,

- It helps organise  animals around farms.

Trampoline design

 Kia Ora Readers!

This week in hurumanu 3 with Miss Bancroft we have been reading stories about inventions that were made in New Zealand. First we had to pick a invention to read about and some tasks to. I firstly choose the spring-free trampoline I was surprised when I saw spring-free trampoline in the list. So I had to go onto Hapara workspace and begin or task. First I read the story about how a New Zealander created spring free trampolines, then I answered the questions about the story and after that I had to create my own trampoline and create a poster explaining how it's better than normal ones. First I created my trampoline on a google drawing, then I added it to a separate slide. Making the trampoline wasn't that hard but I traced some parts from a image to my design and then changed it up. The making of the poster was very fun, I added some more detail to it then I was supposed to.

Bird Masks ( Drama)

 Hey Readers!

In drama we have been making bird masks and acting like birds. We have also been starting to learn about the movement and emotions. Next we got into groups of four or three and thought about the movements, the people in my group were ... Hollie. E, Venice, Amanda and me.

We all had to think about our movement plan and how we would move around the space then act out with each other. Since me and Hollie were both flightless birds we started acting out first, then Amanda and Venice came around us with their movements and sounds. Venice is a barn owl for her act, Amanda is a We had also finished our masks already so we didn't need to do anything around that. But next time I need to add some elastic to make it fit my head. Have you ever experienced acting before?

Here is Hollie and my bird mask mine is the penguin Hollie's is the kiwi.

Violin 🎻 (Counting The Beat)

Salam (Hello) Readers!

This week in counting the beat we have been learning about the violin. First we learnt about  sizes, there are lots of different sizes of violins some of them work differently then others. Next we learnt about the families which are Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass. We  got taught about parts of the violin,  some  parts are.. bow, turning pegs, finger board and end button. There are different types of violin like electric, next we watched some videos of talented people playing  violin such as Vanessa Mae .

After that we got to feel, look and pass the violin around the class. For me the violin is ok I don't love it but I  like but the people who play are very talented. The way that Violin is played is very interesting to me because there are many ways of using Violin and playing. The reason why is because I don't really love the music that comes out of it. What is your favourite instrument and why? My favourite instrument is the piano because I love the sounds and the music you can make,I really want to learn how to play and have been for a while.

Here is the slide we did our work off:

Orchestra ( Counting the beat) 🎤

 Hey Readers!

This week in counting the beat in hurumanu 2 we have been learning about orchestra, a orchestra is a group of stringed instruments. The first thing we did was look at different instrument family's  in orchestras the first instrument we learnt about was the woodwind, a woodwind is like a flute it blows wind and was originally made out of wood, the next instrument we learnt about was the brass, they are sort of like a trumpet but with a different shape, music is made from your lip vibrating onto the mouth piece and some other parts. The last type of instrument we learnt about was ... the percussion family. The percussion family include instruments similar to pianos such as.. xylophone, bass drum, snare drum etc. Then we watched a  you tube video of a orchestra  the video was this group of 1000 students, they did the orchestra during lock down and the music beautiful they played the song "Jupiter." Next we got to see some instruments in real life we got to feel them as well, they were instruments  that would be in a orchestra in person we got to see the violin, flute, recorder and some other instruments but I forgot their names. My favourite instrument I got to feel was the big flute because it was something new for me. Have you learnt about instruments before?

Here is the slide we did our work off:

Automobile timeline

 Hey Readers!

In hurumanu 3 this week with Miss Bancroft we have been focusing on inventions of automobiles. First we got a piece a paper then we had to draw a border next we had to write "timeline of the automobile" at the top of the page. After that we had to draw a line on the piece of paper for the timeline. Then Miss Bancroft played a video about the history of cars and how they became better throughout the years. The most interesting part of the task was seeing how cars were back then and how they weren't as safe to drive. Have you made a timeline before?

Here is my timeline:

Invention of the mouse

 Hey Readers!

This term with Miss Bancroft in hurumanu 3 we have been learning about inventions and what they do for the world. One task we had to do was read a story on epic called "forgotten history of every day inventions" then we had to pick one invention to answer questions about. I choose the mouse ( not the animal the mouse that works with computers) after that I made a slide answering all the questions, some of the questions were: why was it needed and how does it help people. Each time I answered a question I tried adding some images to do with the questions. The hardest part about doing this activity was finding the images to match the questions. Have you learnt about inventions?
