For the first week of the Summer Learning Journey I have been learning about interesting New Zealand facts! I picked three of my favourite facts, here they are...
1. New Zealand is one of the only countries in the world that has 2 official national anthems. They are called god save the queen and god defend New Zealand. I thought this fact was cool because it makes us unique.
2. New Zealanders are called kiwis. This is because the native flightless bird of New Zealand. I though this was quite interesting because it represents my country New Zealand! Lets hope people don't confuse us with the fruit!
3. The official language of New Zealand is English and Maori. We have to learn some Maori at my school. I enjoy learning and Maori because I take it home and teach my parents.
Here is the New Zealand flag!!!!!

Here is a real kiwi, not the fruit!!!!!

Hi Jordan! My name is Mia from Yaldhurst Model School and I am one of the participants of the Summer Learning Journey. I love your post about your three favorite facts, and I love the fact that you have added why you like theses facts. I really like the picture that you have added in, and you have made sure you have added in the links to your pictures, good job! Next time maybe add this onto a background, like on a drawing to make the text more eye catching and colorful.
ReplyDeleteAwesome work!

ReplyDeleteMy name is Mikey. I'm a member of this years Summer Learning Journey team and I will be commenting on your blog posts this summer. Congratulations on completing your first activity! :)
You've chosen some really interesting facts here, Jordan. I really like how you've told us why you like them, and how you have posted a photo to accompany each fact. Well done for remembering to attribute each photo to its owner; it's so important that we give credit to the people/places we've taken our images from. One of my favourite facts about New Zealand is that we have the steepest street in the world! Do you know what it's called? I'll give you a hint: It's in Dunedin. It's awesome to hear that you're learning Te Reo Māori. I learnt when I was in primary school too!
Ka mau te wehi, Jordan! You've done a great job on your first post.
Meri Kirihimete to you and your family :)
All the best,
Mikey
Kia Ora Mikey!
DeleteThe steepest St in the world is Baldwin St, my sister told me! I love learning Te Reo, it connects me with the country. Thank you so much for commenting on my blog, I hope to see more comments from you next time!

Mōrena Jordan!
DeleteIt is! Well done to your sister :) Have you been to Dunedin before? I went there recently for a graduation ceremony but I didn't get a chance to visit Baldwin Street while I was there.
That's a beautiful reason to learn the language, Jordan. One of my favourite things about my Te Reo lessons was listening to old stories and learning different whakataukī (proverbs). I hope your passion for learning Te Reo continues :)
Happy blogging,
Mikey
