Piwaka Rarauhe ©️

Kia Ora Katoa!

This week in my Wānanga we have been doing tasks to do with the Olympics which is happening at the moment. My class got six options of tasks to do in class those are: Design a logo for the Christchurch Olympics & Paralympics, write a argument about why you think Olympics should have gone ahead, find 5 different statistics or facts about 3 sports, choose a sport not included in the Olympics and explain why it should be in the Olympics, create a DLO about the Olympics and make a mascot. I choose to create my own mascot.

Firstly I searched up animals in New Zealand I choose Piwakawaka because it seemed like a unique animal to New Zealand. Then I made a google drawing to start tracing the shape of the bird. Once I finished tracing I added details from the Piwakawaka to make it look more similar to the real life version. After I finished the bird I started adding background details, I choose to make it look like it is swimming and I also put a swimming cap on the Piwakawaka's head. Once I finished with everything I choose a name for my Piwakwaka. The name I choose was Piwaka Rarauhue because it relates to New Zealand Piwaka is short for Piwakawaka and Rarauhue translates to Fern from Maori.

Here is what I created:
