Summer Haiku (SLJ 2020-2021) Set Up (Day four)

Hey Readers! 

 I had already finished kick start and now its time for set up ... I firstly started with learn, I watched a video called 7 Summer haiku in the video it just had 7 summer haiku poems the poems were really intresting. After that I read a story called what makes a good haiku  it talked about different types of poems and heaps more. Next I explored Katikati haiku pathway it was very intresting and talked a little bit about history. Create, anyways after I made a screencastify and used a slide template. The most easiest part was thinking of things for the poems to be about because they were about Summer! The hardest part was making sure the screencastify I made had alright audio and no mumbiling. Summer Haiku (SLJ 2020-2021) Kick Start ( Day Four)

Kia Ora Readers!

Today I saw that their was a Haiku poem I was very excited about it because they are really fun to make.  I had to complete three steps learn, create and share, and also two activites... kick start and set up. You have to also do the three steps for both activites, which makes your posts more intresting. The first thing I did for kick start was learn I watched a video of a guy explaning how to make a haiku poem and how many syllables need to be in each sentence. After that the next thing I did for learn was read how to write a haiku poem it talked about where haiku poems came from. Then I got to explore some haiku poems on google and I also made sure the sentences had the right syllables. After that I started create I made a copy of a google drawing and put it in my SLJ folder. Making the haiku poem was very fun, I made mine about rainforests. I also used a syllable counter to help me make sure I had the right amount of syllables for my poem. After I finished making my poem I added a picture and some details to my background.

Which One Doesn't Belong? (SLJ 2020-2021) Day Three

 Hey Readers! 

Today I have done another SLJ activity I picked the...  which one doesn't belong? activity I had no idea what it was about but when I found out it was a maths activity I wanted to challenge myself. I had three steps to complete the activity, learn, create and share. Firstly for learn I listened to video called one of these things here is the link: One of these things, it's by sesame street do you remeber it?  Next I watched maths at the donut shop, it talked about  4 different numbers or objects and why the number or object didn't fit in  but you had to think of multiple answers to finish one group of four numbers/objects .   For create I started  my slides I thought of two or three different answers of why all the object don't  belong with the other objects.  The slides where  bit tricky at first because I wasn't looking hard enough, I managed to finish them all it was very fun completing them. Once I finished creating all of the slides I got to make my very own one, I choose to pick chocolate cupcakes because they're very delicous. Lastly for share I needed to watch a video about blogging then blog my learning. Here is the video: creating your blog post. For todays activity what I found challenging was

Tānerore ( SLJ 2020-2021) Day Two

Hey Readers! 

It's  day two for me for  the Summer Learning Journey, today  I choose to do Tānerore, it did take me a while to choose but I got there in the end. As I said yesterday I have three steps to complete the activity, they are learn, create and share!  For the first step learn I read a story called who is Tānerore, in the story it talked about haka and Tānerore's mother and how he does the haka. Once I finished reading the story I watched video of a haka and I had to try find the wiriwiri which is a trembling hand. I did find the trembling hand, do you want to find it? Here is the link for you to watch the video: Tanerore. After that I learn't how to draw kowhaiwhai by watching a video, the details made the drawings stand out really well which was good. The video had different types of kowhaiwhai, my Favorite one was the hammer head shark because it really looked like one and the koru's were beautiful on the drawing. Create was the second step, I needed to create my very own kowhaiwhai I could draw it on paper or use a template. I choose to draw on paper because doing it on my chrome seemed very complicated but maybe next time I could challenge myself into trying something new. I got my pencil and drawing book and I begun the drawing I looked back at the video to get a some inspiration for my drawing. The first one I did I didn't really like it but then I started persisting and tried again I finished but I still didn't like it so I made a new one. Once I finished my second one I fixed it up and then rubbed some out and fixed it up agian. As I finally finish my kowhaiwhai up I feel relieved and took a photo. What is my meaning of my kowhaiwhai? My meaning of my kowhaiwhai is love and family it shows how family means alot to everyone ad you need lots of love in life to survive. Lastly share all I need to do is blog so here is my blog post.

Living Springs camp

Salam ( Hello) Readers!

 last week for  three days  I went to living springs camp with my class Punui-o-toka. When I arrived to school I had to put my luggage in the hall. After the bell rang we got into the bus and started looking for things we had in our camp booklets. Once we arrived at the farm we had lunch. We got to feed animals and milk a cow, next  we ate lunch. Once we made it to Living springs camp from a big walk we got to settle into our bunk rooms. After that we  started activites,the first activity my group started with was zypline and some other activites. My favorite part of the activites was zyplining it was scary at first but then it was fun. After, after noon tea my group went swimming I jumped in alot I it was very enjoyable. The most scarest one was the monorail I couldn't even scream that's how scary it truly is. At night we wen't to camp fire we got to roast marshmellows they were really sticky and delicous. After that we came back had showers and played spotlight, I got to be in my group of taggers got mostly everyone.  Now it is finally  the next day for the second day we had swimming, ecosystems, rifles and archery, intiatives and ecosystems. My group started with orrientering, it was very boring my group basically gave up.  After morning tea (which was really good)   my group did was riffles and archery, the girls did riffles first it was very nerve racking but fun at the same time. Archery was just easy and really fun I hit th e middle on my second try which was really good, but I have done archery before so I have learn't how to do it.   Next we did intiatives it was team building things we had to do things as a team. Going over the barrell was very fun and challenging at the same time. Now after, after noon tea  I got to do animal ecosystems it was very fun my favorite part was learning the cycle of what animals do in the wild. We all had dinner and desert and it was finally time to do some night actvities. My group got to do burma trail which is when you need to trust yourself and follow a rope blindfolded, I knocked into lots of trees and bushes. The most challenging part was figuring out where the rope was when I lost it. We have supper and now have a auction my group didn't want anything and didn't get anything it was very tiring waiting for it to end. Day three! I woke up in the morning and had to shower I got into some fresh clean clothes, we have breakfast and brush our teeth. Now we pack our bags clean up and vacuum our bunk houses. After that we put our bags at the entrance and go eat morning tea. After morning tea we play animal survival some of the teachers even joined in so it was really fun.  We then eat lunch and get ready to head back to school. We also went on this big water slide at one point but I don't remeber when, it was really fun. I rolled of the hills most of the times I went on. 










Fishy false teeth comic ( SLJ 2020-2021) Day One

Today I have started the Summer learning Journey, I got to choose from two activites .. Fishy false teeth: kick start or insect art. I choose to do fishy false teeth because it sounded intresting, the other one didn't really.  This year for every SLJ activty you need to  omplete three steps, learn, create, share, they all have a special meaning which gives lots of details for blog posts.  Firstly I made a copy of the slide which had all of my tasks in it I the put it in my SLJ 2020-2021 folder I made. Next I started learn, for learn  I read a story called fishy false teeth it was very intresting and had lots of characters and detail. Once I had finished the story I needed to complete slide six, it was to help me understand the story I didn't complete it because it was a bit confusing but I did most of it. 

 For create I watched a video called teeth I had already watched the video teeth before it was for writing so I just needed to get a flashback of what happened. Then I  made a  comic, I could use the template in slide or use another template. I choose to use the template in the slides because I didn't understand the other one.  Making the comic I tried to think about the facial expresions to be able to write what they would say. The create part was my favorite because I got to make a comic and I love making them. Lastly for share I just need to blog about the process of doing todays activity I choose. My most challenging part of todays task was reading and understanding the texts because it was sort of confusing.

Year 6 leavers dinner

Hey Readers!

   Last night it was the year six leavers dinner, we had to dress formaly to the dinner and make sure we had clean clothes on. As I entered the school I got really nervous but once I saw some of my friends I felt more confident. Next Mrs Jones took a photo of me infront of a small sized christmas tree! Once most people had came to the door we could enter the staff room. I enter the room and I see lots of balloons, some tables with fizzy and christmas crackers. Table by table we went up to get some dinner when my table went up I got some potato salad, a bread roll with margarine, and  some chicken. When I went for seconds I got chicken and a bread roll. After we had dinner, since it was Miss McLeods birthday she got to blow out her candels on her bday cake. After we could stand and have a speech I didn't wan't to say anything but everyone who did said really nice things. Next we had desert for desert we had vanilla ice cream, fruit salad, and pavalova. The second to last thing we did was go outside take some photos, boys and girls took a group photo together, and we could take other photos with the different photo booth things. The last thing we did was went back inside and the teachers gave us some funny or serious certificates , my one said for completing the most blog posts this year. It was really fun last night I had a really good time but I'm sad to leave South Hornby this year I will miss all of my friends and teachers :(  I hope to see some comments for my Summer learning Journey activites, blog ya later.

D.L.O( digital learning object) about Emperor penguins

 Hey Readers! 

This week in J.K rowling we have been learning about Emperor penguins first we read a story called fantastic penguins. The story talked about what temputures penguins like, parts of a penguin, a penguins life cycle, etc. After we read the story the teacher gave us a comprehenson sheet with a story included. Then we started a D.L.O about emperor penguins we also got to choose what we wanted it to be on. Today I just added another slide and read the slides to make sure it all made sence. Doing the comprehenson sheet was easy and fun because I made sure I read it properly. The D.L.O was kind of tricky because I didn't really know what to put in it. Have you ever made a D.L.O?

D.L.O ( Digital learning object) about Sharks

 Hello Readers! 
This week in reading J.k Rowling has been learning about sharks, we first read a story about sharks, it had lots of facts and infomation about them. Once we finished reading the story we had to fill out  a comprehension sheet of two pages and read another text. For the last two days we have had to do a D.L.O about Sharks. In the D.L.O it needed to have alot of detail and infomation about Sharks so it can teach others about them. What I found challenging was doing the comprehenson sheet because I couldn't find some of the answers. The D.L.O was easy to do because I learn't alot. Have you done a D.L.O before.

Great, giant Giraffe ( Infomation report)

 Kia Ora Readers!

For the last few weeks in Miss McLeods writing group we have been doing imfomation reports about endangered animals. First we researched about endangered animals and put the research part into a google doc. Next we chosse our endangered animal to do a infomation report about a animal, I chosse giraffe. After, we started doing a burger plan with research infomation I can add to my writing.  Then we made a copy of the google doc template, so we could get started with the writing. This week we have been finishing our infomation report and blogging it. If we were  able to finish our writing early we get to do free writing, but I hadn't finished my writing. 

What I found challenging was thinking of ways to switch some research words to something different I needed to change it to not copy right.  Planing my writing was easy because I had already learn't alot about giraffes. D.L.O ( Digital learning object) about habitat destruction

 Hello my fellow readers! 

This term in Mrs Jones inqury group we have been foucsing on endangered animals. The first thing we did was watch videos about endangered animals and what has happened. Next we  learn't how animals get endangered. After that we looked at imformation about endangered animals and we had to do a slideshow about endangered animals. for the last two weeks we have been learning about habitat destruction, and  making a D.L.O ( digital learning object) about habitat destruction and facts about it. We needed to include how habitat destruction is caused, what will effects does it give to the habitats, etc. Once we finished our D.L.O ( digital learning object) we need to blog! What I found challenging was adding lots of detail, making sure everthing  made since was very easy.  Have you ever made a D.L.O ( digital learning object) before?

D.L.O about a possum

 Hello my amazing readers!

This week in Miss McLeods group Jk rowling we have been learning about possums. We first read a story called the possum problem. In the story it talked about why people are killing possums and what they're using their fur for. I found out that there using their fur for clothing and selling it for money. Today we read a story on our chromebooks called designed for good. After I finished reading the story I needed to do a D.L.O ( digital learning object) about possums. It wasn't that challenging reading the story, but doing the D.L.O was. Have you done a D.L.O before?

Ocean Zones

 Hey Readers!

Last week in Miss McLeods reading group my group Jk rowling learnt about the ocean zones. The first thing we did was read a story about the ocean zones then we  watched a video about the ocean zones and what animals live in the zones. After we finished watching the video we had to do what animals live in what area of water level. Sunlight, midnight, twilight, the abyss, and the trench are the zones of the ocean.  Once we finished watching the video we had to make a graph about the ocean zones and it what area of the ocean certain animals live for e.g penguins live at the 200 meters below the ocean. Then we were surrpost to do a D.L.O ( digital learning object) about the ocean zones but I didn't have enough time to do that. Making the graph was easy, finding out what zone the animals live in because we had to find it.  Have you learn't about ocean zones?

Lemon Sugar Scrub

Yesturday in Miss McLeod's reading group Jk rowling my group were making lemon hand scrub. The first thing we did was we read with Miss Cornish ( student teacher!)  the story was called up the pipe. The story was about these children who did an experiment about what type of home supplies  have chemicals in them or not. After we read the text we planned the steps of making the lemon scrub. We added the ingredients and steps of making the mixture. Once we got into the wet space we got into groups of four or three. The people in my group were, An, Sophie, Jed and me.  Then we got started I first added 1 cup of vegetable into the mixture. After that I squezed some lemons with Sophie, into a bowl. Once we finished adding everything into the mixture, we started mixing it all together, we all took turns until it was perfect. Then my group got to try the lemon hand scrub, we first washed our hands next we used the hand scrub. The scrub felt very ticklish but also very relaxing on my hands when in the moment. After we washed our hands we all added some lemon hand scrub into our containers we brought.  

Here is the ingredients:

2 or 3 lemons 

2 cups of sugar

1 cup of vegetable oil 

Mix everything together and if you want you may zest a lemon to change the texture a bit. 


What I found challenging was making sure I didn't make a mess, what I found easy was mixing the mixture together.

Vegetable poem

 Hey Readers!

Last week in Miss McLeod's writing group we got to write a vegetable or flower poem to get entered into the flower festival. The first thing we did was  look at some examples of poems, and we also got to comment on something we realised about the poems. Then we planned what we were going to use in our poem. For the first poem I chosse to do it about a cucumber, but the thing is  I could only submit one. Planing about the vegetable was challenging at first but once I got help from Miss Cornish ( Student Teacher) I got the hang of it. It took me awhile to figure out what type of poem I wanted to do for the cucumber. In the end I chosse to submit my what am I poem because that's what most people enjoyed. Editing the poems were easy, picking which poem I wanted was tricky because they were both really amazing,

Calender/dot art

 Hey Readers!

During this term we have been foucusing on calender. We first got to pick two choices of our art, the options were falling down a tunnel, dot art, and lastly kandinsky. I picked dot art and falling down a tunnel. The group I got into was dot art with Miss McLeod. For the first week of dot art we used cotton buds to color in a dot art coloring page. We had to pick four colors I used teal peach and two other colors which I forgot what they were. The next week we made our draft some of us got to use compass ( not the north south east west one by the way).  I struggeled using it so I used a cup after a while of messing up. After we finished doing our draft some people got to test out doing the dots on our drafts. Once we finished that we started our real verson we needed to be really carefull because if we rubbed it out it would leave marks. Anyways I think this blurb is a bit big now so here is the end product.

Measuring in Maths

 Hey Readers!

During this week in homerooms for maths we have been doing measuring and capasity. For the first day we got to use glasses and add water and after that we checked how much water there was by using measuring cups.  We did that type of measuring for a week then last week we had to make a slide and name it Measuring. It had to include the steps we used and a graph we made etc. The hardest part about the measuring trying to measuring how much was really in the cups that we used and something else which is in the slide.  Making the slide was easy because I only needed to write what we did etc. Have you done slides before?

Year 6 P.E

Hey Readers!

 Today for the year 6 p.e with Mrs Jones, Miss Mcclelland and Miss Williamson. First we lined up to go into the hall as we got into the hall we got put into two teams. The first game we played was paper siccors where you run up to a person from the other team and do rock paper sicors and if you win that bit you go to the next person once you reach the last person to vrs and you win you get your team a point. Then we played sharks and islands so theres two sharks and there is multiple islands.  When you go into a island you get protected from the sharks and when someone else goes into the island that your in you go to another island if you get tagged by a shark your then a shark.  After that we played a really fun game called Animal crossing where you walk to a hoop and walk like any animal. My favourite game was Animal crossing because it was fun watching others do the different animal walking. Three videos of doing the animal crossing will be down bellow.

Gaming Addiction slide

 Hey Readers!
During these two weeks in Miss McLeod's reading group we have been foucsing on debate groups. To be able to debate we picked a group, I personaly picked gaming addiction. First we read two stories about gaming addiction then we made a google slide about what we have been learning about. Also some research to back it up.  We had to get into buddies my buddy was Cameron. What was hard was researching because sometimes you don't really know if whats put online is true. Writing my own opinion was quite easy because I already had a idea in my head. 


Te reo Moari video/ greetings

 Kia Ora readers!

During this term for Te reo moari in Homerooms we have been doing greetings.  First Mrs Jones set us a task to do a video with a buddie and use some of the greetings we have learn't. We got into buddies, my buddie was my best friend Bella. Next Bella and I wrote down what we wanted to say in the video. Then I got my chromebook and Bella and I started filming it took us two or three tries but we got there in the end. After we finished we told Mrs Jones and she said we needed to blog. Sorry if i've posted this a bit late but here is the end result. You can't really see our faces but you can here our voices.

Describe a moment in time

Hey Readers!

For the past few weeks in Miss McLeod's we have been doing describe a moment in time to get ready for our e-asttle test at the end of this term.  First Miss McLeod modelded the the introduction then I made a copy of a document that we used for our writing. After that I started my introduction which included the setting, sencers etc. The following week we started our first and secound paragraph, and for each paragraph it needed to be based of one sencer for each one.  Now today we started our concluson to end our story then I self checked, buddie check, then finally showed it to Mrs Harris.  What I found hard was doing my concluson because I wasn't really sure what to put in it. What I found easy was doing my introduction because I got to describe the setting etc. Mrs Harris said I could blog it so here is the result!

Metaphors with Miss Hodgson

 Kia Ora readers!

Today with Miss Hodgson/ Miss H for Miss McLeod's writing we have been doing a Metaphor mini lesson. First we looked at the mini lesson slide, that explained what metaphors are. In the mini lesson it also had some pictures that we used to make some sentences.  After that I made a copy of the document  Miss McLeod gave us to do. Not using as or like was very tricky because I use those words quite alot in my writing. Thinking of sentences was easy but it took me a while to get it right.

Similes Mini lessons

Hey Readers!

Today with Miss H for the mini lesson we learn't about Similes. Similes is when you compare something to something else.  First we read some examples where we had to fix up an sentence. Then we  made our own sentences by looking at a image. Once we finished the mini lesson we had to do a google doc with some images that we needed to use as and like in two senteces. What I found hard was doing the last bottom part were I didn't have an image and I had to figure it out. Everything else was easy. Have you ever done something simalar to this?

Wonder Character

Kia Ora Readers!
During this term in Miss McLeods reading group we have been reading a story called Wonder. Miss McLeod found an website were you can make a character that is sort of like the bookcover except you can design your own. After I finished doing my reading activity I went onto the website and started creating mine. If you want to make your own character here is the link to the website: Wonder. The first step I did was pick my face shape then I choose my eye and ears. After that I picked my hair I choose some long braids, also some accersories. Then I picked a precept a precept is sort of like a queot. Doing precept was tricky because it took me a long time to choose the right one. Doing my face was really fun because I got to design it my self. My preset means when your talent doesn't work just try your best put your effort into it.

Yesturday in Miss McLeods reading we did an activity about wearing school uniform and not and for and agianst. First I made a copy of the google doc, then I started doing the work. After that I thought about some reasons for the for and agianst bits. At first it was a bit tricky but I got it in the end. What was challenging was doing the agianst reasons, the for half was quite easy. Have you ever done an for or agianst activity?

Cats are better pets than dogs!

Hey Readers!
In  the past weeks  in Miss McLeods litreacy  we have been doing persuasive and learning about opinons, first we choose our option of what we wanted to use to persuade. Next Miss Mcleod showed us an example of a persusave text, then we went to do our plan that had imfomation about a topic. The following week we started our introduction we looked at the modelling slides and Miss McLeod showed us an example. After that we started doing the introduction I started mine with a rhetorical question which is a question that doesn't need an answer. Then the next week we did our two paragphs by using our plans. A few weeks later we had to finish our writing and some of us did our concluson. 

Doing my concluson was challenging because I was stuck but in the end I understood it. The three paragphs were very easy to do because I could use my own opinon plus some research to back up my opinon. Have you ever done any persusave texts? Have you learn't about opinons before?

Muesli bar design

 Kia Ora Readers!

Today in Miss Mclellands inqury/ technology group we had the task to design our own muesli bar name and company name. Firstly Miss Mclelland explaned to us that we are doing a muesli bar design booklet and the steps we needed to do. Secoundly we needed to get into a group of three and the group that we were in is the groups we stayed in for the rest of inqury. The people in my group is Angela, Kate, and me Jordan, thirdly we got our crates and went into the wet space. Next we got started we thought hard about the company name,  we also needed to make sure that it would hook kids into wanting to get the bar. 

Once we finished doing the muesli bar design booklet we showed Miss Mclelland and she really liked the company name. Next we told her that we also had finished the logo, then she gave us some fedback of some things we needed to fix up. After we finished doing that kate asked Miss Mclelland what we do next. Miss Mclelland said " well done guys your the first ones to get this finished i'm really shocked. You can now blog about the process of what we have done today."  Coming up with the company name was really easy because I had it in my head the whole time. Doing the booklet was quite tricky because we were a bit confused. If you want to know our company name here it is: Scrumptious.
