Setting writing goals

Hey readers!

Today in hurumanu 1 we have been thinking about our writing goals. Here are my three goals that I think I need to improve on and need to be really good at. I looked through the writing rubric to see which three goals I wanted to achieve. Here are my three goals: Becoming better at using vocabulary I want to be able to make my writing better and more descriptive, organisation, keep a flow throughout all my sentences and paragraphs, have bigger brighter ideas to add to my writing that make sense and make my writing better. Those are my three goals I hope to achieve by the end of next term or the year. Have you set your writing goals yet??

Images of my three goals I choose from the writing rubric slide:

Counting the beat ( ukulele & recorder)

 Kia Ora Readers!

This week in counting the beat we have been learning about ukulele's and the recorder/flute we first had to answer some questions, such as " what to do you know about ukulele?" After that we watched some you tube videos of people playing the ukulele and making music with ukulele. We learnt about the different sizes and shapes with different colours and features. 3 glossary terms are sound hole, headlock and bridge. For the  recorder there is the mouth piece, block and tane hole. Some students got to play a song with ukulele they choose to play the lion sleeps tonight. Today we learnt about the recorder we got to listen to some tunes and play some tunes. The first few tunes we learnt we did pretty good on but the last ones not so much. Playing the recorder for me was a little bit easy at first but then the tunes got a bit confusing. We also got to see the different sizes  there were big, small and medium sizes, but we played the small ones.

Bird Mask Research

 Kia Ora Readers !

This week in drama we have been learning about birds and making masks. We first looked at some videos of people wearing some bird masks. Then we thought of a New Zealand bird to do our mask of I choose penguin because the templates I found online seemed a bit easy for me. I searched "penguin bird masks" and looked for some ideas for my mask. After that I thought of some ideas I needed for my mask and what penguins look so I can make my mask. The hardest part was finding an easy mask to make.

We also watched a video about some people doing a warm up, and then we started doing the movements  of in the videos. What I learnt is that you don't need to look like a bird to be one you have to have the movements.

My Hero

Hey Readers!

Throughout three weeks in my hurumanu class we have been learning about heroes and how anyone can be a hero if they try hard. For the first week we got a piece of paper that had some tasks to do. We had to think of some superpowers our hero can do, what they look like, and a name for the hero. I choose to call my hero weather woman she can change the weather, teleport, and becoming anything. The week after that we learn't about traits, traits are what makes someone a hero. A week later we started writing about someone who we look up to as a hero. The first task we did was find four heroes we look up to and write it down on a sticky note and then write about the four heroes we found. After that we had to make a google doc and start writing  about our hero we also got to research about our person. My person was Mr Beast I think he is my hero because he helps people with food and money and posts YouTube videos about it. It took me about a week to finish my writing but I made sure everything made sense. My favourite part about doing this activity was learning about different heroes and what they do. Who is your hero??

Guitars (Counting the beat)

 Hey Readers!

Yesterday in my  hurumanu class we learn't about all the different types of guitars and how they work. First we answered some question to do with guitars such as... what do you know about guitars? Then Mr Mitchell showed us some types of guitars and how they work and look. Every guitar was very unique and had there own way of working. We learn't about the parts of guitars and what they do to work the guitar some parts are : frets, rosette, and neck. Some guitars even had more strings than others. After that we listened to some music that had guitars playing in it. Then we got to see Mr Mitchell play some of his guitars he had. Next we got to play some of the guitars I played the travel, electric, and air guitar. My favourite guitar I played was the Air guitar because it was very fun but it was out of tune. Have you ever played a guitar?

Year 7/8 drama

Ni hoa ( hello)  Readers this year the year 7/8 have been learning how to do drama and the movements in drama. We learn't some games that help us with the movement in drama, the first game we learn't how to play was 16/16 circle were we take 16 steps turn and do a certain amount of steps then turn again and once we finish doing all the steps we turn to the middle.  Another game was listening to what the teacher says then doing the movements, what we did was jump, walk, clap, and freeze. Yesterday we had to get into groups of four (my group was Amanda, Hollie, Venice and me), get each other into a diamond shape then Mrs Clark ( drama teacher) told people from each part of the diamond to do a certain movement everyone in the groups had to copy the leader. Each person in the groups got at least two turns, once all the groups got the hang of it we had to create any dance but it the diamond shape we had to rotate to an edge to be able to lead our group we had 10 minutes to make the dance and make sure we knew what to do. My group went second to last we choose our music and started, I started the dance and my group followed the movements I did I sort of forgot what moves I was supposed to do so I made it up on the spot. Once we finished our dance Hollie and my group went down the stairs together and went to go sit down. Have you ever experienced drama?

Here is something my drama group had to look at:
