Here is the video :

This video is from my best friend Venice. I did film a video of my own but the file was to big so I had to use Venice's. It's a time lapse so the video won't take to long to watch :)

Here is a photo of one of the hokey pokey blobs:

Discussion:

I noticed when I ate the hokey pokey it was chewy and very sweet. As I watched my class mates pour/scrap the hokey pokey onto the baking paper I felt satisfied. It felt very sticky and felt like sugar. My favourite part of this activity was eating the hokey pokey and mixing the mixture :) (Unfortunately we didn't use cookie cutters πŸ˜• but that's ok).

Business & Enterprise πŸ‘©‍πŸ’ΌπŸ’°

 Hey Readers!

This term for the kete we did business & enterprise. Business & enterprise is where you create a company/business, create products and sell them. We started this kete by going onto banquer and learning how to manage money and learn what you can do with money. After 3 or more weeks of being on banquer we started to get into groups to start our business plans. In the business plan we thought about what we were going to sell and everything about our company and products.

Each group had four roles CEO, marketing manager, production manager and finance manager. CEO had to write down the progress of each lesson, make sure everything is up to date and write the letter .  The marketing manager made the posters, slide show and the banner. Production manager made sure the products were up to the standard to be able to sell the products. Finally the finance manager's role is to make sure we had enough money to buy stuff to make the products. We also had to stay on a budget of $20 or more if the teacher approves.

My group was called "Lil Charms," we made charms out of clay and sold them for $2.50. Every single decision was important and payed a big role in our business.  Including what clay we get, how we make the products and when we make the products etc. I believe I did well for my business because I made sure our because was noticed by others. Personally I believe we didn't show all of the school values because we gave up at times and disagreed with each other.

As a group it took as a while to make a decision because we kept changing our minds. Our first option was jewellery out of beads, stress balls, anime masks and finally clay charms. On the first of December we had a market day and we sold over $30 which I believe is really good. On the market day I brought a poster and 3 charms.

Making ginger Beer 🍺

Kia Ora Readers!

Today in science we learn't how to make ginger beer with ginger. We firstly did the blogpost and then on the next lesson we made the ginger beer.

Aim: I want to know how to brew ginger beer.

Research:

Method:

Equipment:
  • Ginger (source of sugar)
  • lemon
  • Warm water
  • Yeast
  • Cup
  • Spoon/popsicle stick
Instructions:
  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with water and soap.
  2. Get all of the equipment required.
  3. Cut up/ mince 1 tablespoon of ginger.
  4. Put 1 tablespoon of ginger into the cup.
  5. Fill the cup half way with warm water.
  6. Add 1 teaspoon of yeast into the cup of ginger and water.
  7. Mix the mixture together with a spoon.
  8. Leave the ginger beer mixture to ferment for 6 days or as long as you want.
  9. After 6 days you can finally drink it and taste test it.

Results:

Before -------->

 After ------>

Disscussion:

Sugar
  • Potato = Vodka ( Leave for 3 to 5 days)
  • Rye =  Whiskey ( Leave for 5 to 10 days)
  • Apples = Cider ( Leave for 5 to 14 days)
  • Grapes =  Wine ( Leave for 3 to 4 weeks)
  • Hops = beer ( Leave for 2 to 4 months, 6 to 10 hours hand brewing)
What is fermentation?

Fermentation is when yeast eats the sugar and excretes carbon dioxide and alcohol.

What are the best conditions of brewing?

Making sure the alcohol is at a cool temperature by chilling the drink, not shaking the drink so that the surface area doesn't get increased etc.

What is the difference between beer, cider, wine, vodka and whiskey?

Liquor drinks such as vodka, whiskey and brandy are called "distilled alcoholic beverages."  Drinks like these will be more alcoholic proof. The opposite of this is " undistilled alcoholic beverages"  these drinks include less alcohol like beer, champagne, port, sherry and cider.

Tasting the ginger beer:

My ginger tasted absolutely disgusting. For me it was a big fail. It tasted very watery and tasteless. I think I didn't add enough ginger, lemon and sugar. It lost it sweetness and became gross. It smelt very strong.

A Healthy menu for a week ⚕️

 Kia Ora Readers!

This week in health we have been learning what a healthy meal is and what is in a healthy meal. We watched a video about a lady explain how most teenagers in Australia aren't eating healthy meals.  I learnt that eating un healthy young may lead to problems in the future. So my teacher set us a task to create a healthy menu for a week. This task was very fun to do because I love making slideshows and sharing my ideas. The hardest part was finding out what is healthy to eat, nutritious and delicious. My favourite part was making the slideshow unique to me.

What would a healthy meal look like to you??

Red Cabbage Indicator 🎨

Aim: I want to find out how red cabbage can tell if liquid is an acid or a base.

Research:

Method:

Equipment:
  • Acid - Hydrochloric acid
  • Base - Sodium Hydroxide
  • Red Cabbage
  • Water
  • Cup/Beaker
  • Test tube
  • Dropper
Instructions:

  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Get all of your equipment required.
  3. Add water to your cup/beaker.
  4. Break the cabbage into small pieces.
  5. Mix the red cabbage and water together with the dropper until it starts to turn dark purple. ( The darker the water the better the colours will be)
  6.  With the dropper add three drops of the purple water to each test tube.
  7. For the first time just add the acid to one of the test tubes and base to another.
  8. Gradually add the base and acid to each test tube.
  9. Add as many drops of acid and base to create colours. (Make sure you don't get any of the acid or base on your hands).
  10.  Maybe even try to layer the colours on top of each other.

Results:

Discussion:

Q1 : What is an Acid and a Base?

A1 :  Acid is a substance that gives hydrogen ion and donates to a substance. When the acid is added to the cabbage water it creates a pigment and changes the colour. Base is a substance that takes the acid.

Q2 : What do chemical indicators do?

A2: The Chemical indicators creates the chemical reaction. Which makes the colour appear when the acid and base is included in the cabbage water.

Making sherbet🍬

 Aim:

I want to find out how to make sherbet.

Research:

                                                             How to make sherbet:

The science of sherbet:

Method:

Equipment:

  • Citric acid/tartaric acid
  • Popsicle stick
  • Raro
  • Baking soda
  • Paper or plate

Instructions:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with water and soap.
  2. Get all of your equipment required.
  3. Put the paper/plate on your table.
  4. Get a pile of all of the three powders.
  5. Using your popsicle start mixing some of each powder together.
  6. Taste the sherbet.
  7. If there is too much Baking soda, add more Citric Acid.
  8. If there is too much Citric Acid, add more Baking soda.
  9. To improve the flavor, add more Raro.

Results:

My sherbet tasted very sour and bitter.

Discussion:

Why did the sherbet not foam on the paper but it did in my mouth?
  • When an acid is mixed with a carbon carbonate they react to from carbon dioxide gas, water and salt the bubbles on your tongue are carbon dioxide and the reaction is sped up because the mixture dissolves the saliva. The breakdown of citric acid into carbon dioxide is a very important process inside your body and it's called carboxylic.

What was the chemical reaction in the sherbet?
  • The chemical reaction is made from citric acid and sodium bicarbonate. A reaction is caused by bubbles of carbon dioxide when dry ingredients get wet from saliva.

What type of chemical is it?
  • Neutralisation

Clowns 🀑

 Kia Ora Readers!

In drama this week we had to write a blog post about what clowning is. I believe that clowning can  be someone who is silly and someone who  fools around. A clown is someone who is clumsy and a person who plays tricks on others and fail they can also be someone who is foolish.  There are many different types of clowns but that is my meaning.

Here is a clown I made up:

My clowns name is Bobo meaning crazy/stupid in Spanish. The type of clown is a mime clown. They walk like a elephant.  Bobo the clown doesn't talk because they are a mime clown. Bobo plays tricks on people making them think that they have stuff in there hands.

Here is a video of a comedy clown performance:

Discussion:

How do you taste food?

Food is tasted from the taste buds located on your tongue. There are many different types of taste buds and that is how you taste sour, sweet, bitter or salty. When you taste something sweet your taste buds send messages to your brain about what type of food is and what is tastes like.

What are the different tastes?

There are four main different types of tastes they are : sour, salt, bitter and sweet. The three other tastes are umami which is savoury, astringent and pungent.

Where are the different taste buds on your tongue?
In the front of your tongue is the sweet taste buds, salty and sour are on the sides of your tongue and bitter is in the back.
Does smell affect your taste?

Yes smell does affect the taste of food. Most of the time people judge food by the smell and that can affect the taste. As well as that about 80% of smell is what is responsible for what food tastes like.

Van GohπŸ–Œ️🎨

 Kia Ora Readers!

This term in art we have been learning how to do impasto painting. One of our tasks was to research and answer questions about Van Goh. We had to go onto a google doc read the description about Van Goh and go on some websites to find answers to questions. For me it was a little bit tricky to find a answer to the third question because some people had different answers so I was a little confused. But I ended up using my answer I found. I hope you enjoy looking at the answers to the questions!

Answer the following questions and post these to your blog:

  1. What does the word impasto mean? Look up the word in lexipedia.com, then type your answer here:

Impasto means the paintings that show paint strokes from pallet knives and brushes.

  1. How can an impasto brushstrokes express emotions?

It expresses emotions from the texture and how the art looks.

  1. Was Van Gogh one of the first painters to use impasto technique?

No, Van Gogh was not the first painter to use the impasto technique; it was Venetian Renaissance artists Titian and Tintoretto.

  1. When you finish these questions use the information to create a post for your blog about these two paintings.

Thank you for reading my blogpost!
